If there are two things that should go together, its tattoos and rock stars. After all, tattoos have long been a symbol of rebellion. For male rock stars, tattoos have the added attraction of making you look like a badass.
Tattoos are particularly popular among members of rock bands, whose members seem to egg each other on in getting more and more ink on their bodies.
For example, the members of the Red Hot Chili Peppers revealed their many tattoos on photographs included with their 1991 album Blood Sugar Sex Magik.
The member with the most tattoos seems to be bassist Flea, who has more than six, including a portrait of Jimi Hendrix on his left bicep (Hendrix was an important influence for the band) followed by lead singer Anthony Kledis, whose many tattoos include an American Indian tattoo (a nod to his heritage since his grandmother was part-Mohican).
On the other hand, although every member of Aerosmith has tattoos, lead singer Steven Tyler has just one: red flames with "Ma Kin" on his left bicep; if you see any others on his body during concerts, they are only temporary body art drawn on by Tyler with markers.
Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy, on the other hand, must hold some kind of record for tattoo love, since he reportedly has more than thirty-six tattoos on his body. Pete Wentz tattoos include the Bartskull, the logo of his record company Decaydance Records and a character from the film The Nightmare Before Christmas on his arm. The other members of Fall Out Boy also all sport tats, with the notable exception of guitarist/vocalist Patrick Stump, who oddly enough has none.
But even the members of a seemingly wholesome boy band like the Backsteet Boys sport body ink. Brian Littrell has the lyrics of a song he wrote for his wife tattooed on his body while A.J. McLean has the words "Laugh Now" above his left elbow.
Meanwhile, Nick Carter has attracted much derision for his seemingly unrelated tattoos, most notably a shark on his left bicep accompanied by the Chinese characters for the word Poseidon and the first name of his ex-girlfriend Paris Hilton on his wrist (which he reportedly later had changed to a skull and crossbones design).
